Hello Fellow Gardeners,

During my everlasting hunt for all things gardening, I found a great free video by Alan Titchmarsh called “How to be a Gardener!” This free 4 hour video has every phase of gardening from Spring to Fall and lots of great tips n’ tricks, and general information that would be perfect for beginner’s and old pro’s alike! Titchmarsh presents the information in a easy to understand and rather humorous manner that I really enjoyed! Click here to view the video!

All about Alan…

“He has twice been named ‘Gardening Writer of the Year’ and for four successive years was voted ‘Television Personality of the Year’ by the Garden Writers’ Guild. In 2004 he received their Lifetime Achievement Award. He writes regularly in BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine, as well as being gardening correspondent for the Daily Express and Sunday Express. He also writes a weekly column for the Radio Times. He won a Gold Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show in 1985 for a country kitchen garden.”

If you don’t have a full four hours to dedicate in one sitting (I didn’t!) you can start the video wherever you like- just make sure to note down the time near the bottom right corner of the video so you know precisely where you left off!

I would recommend having a DSL line (basically high speed internet) to view the video, but if you don’t there are still many options!

1. Go to your public library! Most public places that offer internet service have a very fast DSL line! Make sure to bring your earphones though!

2. Go to an internet cafe! These places may charge for you to be on the internet, but it’s minimal and often you get a certain amount of free time by buying a cup of coffee or a muffin! Again- bring your earphones, you don’t want to disturb people around you, and more importantly you don’t want to be disturbed by people talking around you!

3. If neither of these options are available to you, I have found that letting the video play through once greatly decreases buffering (i.e. pausing to load) the second time. You can do this in segments! Let the first half an hour of the video play by itself, then watch it- and repeat!

I hope you enjoy the video as much as I did! It was a great experience! I love the flowers presented, the garden designs, and all that wonderful garden information!
