What’s New in the Wonderful World of Edmund’s Roses
Hello Fellow Gardeners,
If you want something truly unique for your garden, you may want to try the new roses for 2008! Not only do roses add a major *wow* factor to any garden, but roses are surprisingly easy to grow, are one of the most gorgeous flowers available, and a great way to add color, scent and texture to your garden! Edmund’s Roses is one of my favorite places to shop, and they offer a unique new 2008 rose collection which we feature here…
Double Knock Out
Loved Knock Out? You’ll love Double Knock Out too! Hardy to zone 4, this rose is grown on it’s own roots, and grows to between 3 ft. and 4 ft. Unfortunately this crimson beauty does not have a scent, but you’ll get to enjoy the lovely blooms all summer long!
Morning Magic
Unfortunately, this rose does not have a listing of which zone it’s hardy to, but if you want to take a chance, I would recommend providing it with winter protection. The good news is that it is on it’s own roots, so that is a clue that it should be hardy to at least zone 5. This repeat bloomer is a climber and grows between 6 ft. and 8 ft. tall!
Winner’s Circle
Hardy to zone 5, this climbing rose is grown on it’s own roots, and grows between 6 ft. and 8 ft! Again, no fragrance, but blooms constantly! This rose will need winter protection, as do all roses that you plant that are not for your zone.
Tiddly Winks
One of the few miniatures introduced this year, this gorgeous multi-color rose, blooms all summer and has a slight fragrance. Grown on it’s own root, it should be hardy to zone 5 (though again, it does not have a listing to which zone it is hardy to). I would recommend providing it with winter protection just to be safe!
Coffee Bean
This dark red/orange miniature beauty is perfect to add oomph to that dull little corner of your garden! Grown on it’s own root, it should be hardy to zone 5 (though again, it does not have a listing to which zone it is hardy to). This tiny rose features a mild tea scent, repeat blooms, and grows to between 12 and 16 inches! The size is also great for containers! I would recommend providing it with winter protection just to be safe!
Own root roses have a lot of benefits such as being more winter hardy (a better chance of survival), are healthier, will last a lifetime (or more!), and as an added bonus, there are no suckers! For more information on the benefits of own root roses check out Heirloom Roses.
Remember, if you find something you like here, order early (like now!)! Everyone is looking for that totally unique flower that no one else has, and you would be surprised how quickly the new varieties run out.
Stay tuned for more tips, tricks, ideas and inspiration from the Daily Weeder!
